Above the Fold: Trading bot contest and Updates!
Multiple choice markets, trading bot drama and contest, improved search and sort, EAG SF Hackathon!
Hello friends!
This week we will be highlighting some new features, the automatic trading bot drama and announcing our $1000 CONTEST!
We were also at EAG San Francisco last week and had a great time! We hosted another hackathon for which we will be sharing the results.
Multiple choice markets
After popular demand, Stephen has met the needs of the people and valiantly used his time during our most recent hackathon to implement multiple choice markets!
They function similarly to our free response markets and use the same back end. The key difference is answers can only be added by the creator during the creation phase. The initial liquidity is equally dispersed across all answers automatically upon creation.
The trading bot frenzy
We’ve started to see the rise of some bots on our platform!
A few weeks ago we had a market on whether Yes or No would receive more bets. Adrian resorted to creating a bot to start automatically day trading to earn profit. Things really began to take off once other users started noticing and created their own bots to counter Adrian’s.
Check out this awesome write-up from Wasabipesto that includes details and quotes from some of the major players who were involved. There were so many bets made that the market page broke and was inaccessible for several weeks until we managed to fix it!
Manifold trading bot contest!
We are hosting a competition to see who can create the best-automated trading bot! Over $1000USD (or M$100,000) is up for grabs to be split among the top 5 bots.
Read the full details and enter by creating a submission on this market.
For inspiration, check out the bot James made that is currently profitable and helping provide liquidity for traders to bet against.
Other updates to the site
Increase unique trader bonus to M$10.
Improved search functionality.
You can now add markets to multiple groups directly from the market page.
You can now edit the question and description after creating a market.
New ‘Trending’ sort option that shows markets with the most unique traders over the last 72 hours.
New ‘Subsidy’ sort option that shows markets with the most potential for profit (largest liquidity pool and open limit orders).
Hack-a-thon EAG SF edition
🏆 1st place - Inga
Inga created an awesome onboarding popup to help new users!
🥈 2nd place - Keri
Keri created a website, WagerWith.me, using Manifold’s open-source codebase.
🥉 3rd place - Ian
Ian created a Pull Request that would allow users to redeem their Mana for gift cards! Unfortunately, it didn’t get approved by the company we were looking to partner with, but you can predict here whether we will find a way to add it to our site anyways.
Links to check out!
Our friends from QURI who you can support with Mana have just announced early access to Squiggle, an open-source programming language on JS meant for cost-benefit analysis / risk analysis / probabilistic models.
Although resolved now, markets on Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan really took off and we saw a huge influx of new users. Jack, one of our most experienced users, was able to take advantage of this!
There’s the faintest whisper of Manifold embeds on Substack floating through the wind.
That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading 💖
There’s some spicy stuff coming before the next newsletter so keep an eye out on our Twitter or Discord 👀
